OR
2. Virtual Option for families in grades k-12
(there will be an informational meeting on
Monday Aug 17, 2020 at the school)
Time will be, but will be either 6:00 pm or 7:00 pm
We will post this week links for families to review the virtual option: k-5 presentation, 6-8 presentation, and 9-12 presentation prior to virtual meeting on Aug 17.

Deckerville Community Schools would like to extend our thanks to the community in getting out the vote and passing our bond proposal. It was a resounding success. We had very high voter turnout for a primary election, 56%, and the bond passed by a very healthy margin of 34%. Once again, the residents of the Village of Deckerville and its surrounding townships have proven that they value the education of their students!

On the Tuesday, August 4th, 2020, primary ballot, Deckerville Community Schools has included a bond proposal for the voters of our school district. A bond proposal is a State-approved funding process for a set of projects. When the bonds are sold, they generate revenue for district improvements. Our last bond proposal, passed in 2011 has a current debt levy of 0.54 mills, which is by far the lowest in Sanilac County. With a proposed increase of 0.46 mills, the new millage that would be levied beginning in 2021 would be 1.00 mills ($1.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), and would remain the lowest debt rate of our county’s school districts. A house with a valuation of $70,000 would see a tax increase of about $16.10, or about $1.34 per month. If passed, this bond proposal will generate $2.43 million in school improvement funds.
Deckerville Community Schools has a long and consistent history of fiscal responsibility, however, our facilities, though maintained, have continued to age. The revenue generated by this bond proposal will allow the district to address a number of infrastructure issues. These will include a partial roof replacement, band room remodeling and upgrades, restroom renovations, mechanical equipment improvements, replacement of critical galvanized piping, and asbestos abatement if needed. We will also replace the bleachers and floor in our main gymnasium, which were originally installed in 1964. Other improvements will include secure entry renovations and a public address system upgrade, two very important security considerations. Finally, we will also include instructional upgrades such as STEM lab renovations and classroom technology purchases. Projects will begin, if possible, in the summer of 2021.
Please remember to vote tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4th!

Good evening. This is Michael Hugan, Superintendent of Deckerville Community Schools. I am calling to thank our school community for all the support from you that we have received during these unprecedented times. Our food distribution, which ended on June 3rd, was a success, and we were able to provide two meals per day to families throughout the last quarter of the regularly scheduled school year.
I would also like to inform you that at this time, school is scheduled to resume with a normal schedule at the end of August. Although we have received little guidance as to what will be required of us in terms of safety against communicable diseases such as COVID-19, our administration has formed a team that has been meeting and planning to deal with several different opening scenarios, including providing education in a more coordinated and consistent manner in case of another prolonged shutdown.
Please check our live feed and Facebook page regularly for important instructions regarding picking up personal student belongings and other information.
COVID-19 notwithstanding, we still consider the 2019-2020 school year to be an overall success, and are looking forward to the return of our students. I am proud to live and work in such a supportive, strong, and resilient community. Thank you, and have a great evening!
