On Friday, September 25th, Governor Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-183, which required all students in grades K-5 to wear a face mask in classrooms, beginning on Monday, October 5th. Prior executive orders had recommended, but not required, a face mask in grades K-5. On Friday, October 2nd, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Governor Whitmer did not have the authority to issue COVID-19 Executive Orders after April 30th, 2020, under the Emergency Management Act. The Court also ruled that the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act, which is the basis for issuing Executive Orders, is unconstitutional. In regards to this decision, Deckerville Community Schools will follow the recommendation of our law firm, which, until further clarity is received, is to continue to comply with our board approved COVID-19 Preparedness and Response plan. This is exactly how we started the school year, and we have been quite successful thus far in implementing this plan. In regard to the wearing of masks, K-5 students in self-contained classrooms will not be required to wear masks while in class.

To participate, students must complete an approved online hunter education course and BRING PROOF OF COMPLETION. This event will allow students to perform the mandatory field training and take the required test to receive their hunter safety certificate. Per DNR guidelines, all students and parents/guardians present for the class must wear a face covering - no exceptions. Additionally students should bring their own pencils and eye/ear protection, if able. Anyone who is feeling ill should not attend the class. Due to restrictions on class size, we are asking that students register in advance. Please register by texting or calling Kyle O’Mara at (810) 414-0077.

Hello, this is Michael Hugan, Superintendent of Deckerville Community Schools. I am calling to remind you that tomorrow, Monday, August 31st, Deckerville Community Schools will begin face to face instruction. The doors will be opened at 7:45am, and school will begin at 8:05am and end at 3:00pm. All students will need to wear masks on busses and when entering the building. Kindergarten-5th grade students will need to wear masks until their teachers allow them to take them off once inside the classroom. Parents of Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be allowed to accompany their students to the classroom door, however, they will also be required to wear a mask in the building. Parents of 3rd-6th may drop off their students at the main elementary door and the students will go to the breakfast room first on their way to their classroom. We are excited to have the majority of our students back once again. Face to face instruction is what we do best at Deckerville Community Schools, and teachers, as well as other school workers, are looking forward to interacting with the students that they have sorely missed since mid-March. If you have questions, please contact the Elementary school or High School office. Thank you, and have a good evening.

Parents interested in the 100% virtual learning option for the 2020-2021 school year, there will be a town hall with our virtual provider on Monday Aug 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm in the HS Cafe. A frequently asked question about "how much time should my student be online every day for the virtual classes?".... the answer is approximately 4-5 hours depending on grade level. Some classes require more writing :)
