Dear Deckerville Schools Community. We are aware that several local news outlets are reporting that Deckerville Community Schools, and in particular, Deckerville Elementary School, is currently experiencing an “outbreak” of COVID-19. Although we have had several cases reported to us since January 4th, the majority have been in our high school or among staff members, not our elementary school. Many of these cases have been students or staff that were already quarantined before becoming symptomatic. One new case was reported today, originating from a high school student who was already quarantined. It is unclear why these news outlets consider the number of cases in our school district to be notable at this time. No news organization has contacted school officials, and our COVID-19 dashboard, located on our website, has been updated regularly. Please help us to continue keep our schools safe: Here are actions you can take:
• Wear a mask (covering mouth and nose) when around people with whom you do not live.
• Practice social distancing (maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart).
• Practice frequent handwashing (using soap for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol).
• Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with the inside of your elbow and immediately wash your hands.
• Stay home if you are sick.

Dear Deckerville Parents, Students, and Community Members:
Despite the many rumors of an imminent school closure, Deckerville Community Schools has no intention of suspending face-to-face learning at this time. Although we have had a handful of parents and students quarantine, so far, no employee or student of our district has tested positive for COVID-19. Please help us continue to successfully ward off this virus by encouraging students to wear masks, wash their hands frequently, and maintain social distancing when possible. Thank you, and have a great weekend. Michael S. Hugan, Superintendent, Deckerville Community Schools.
