January 27th, 2021 Dear School Community, As noted on our COVID-19 Dashboard https://docs.google.com/document/d/1494I-yXQHbKzU6kPs6aVIxKS4jpFnsUp8Vx68AKNkLM , on Wednesday, January 27th, we learned about two school associated cases of COVID-19 in a student or staff person at Deckerville Community Schools. Cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed location(s) has been completed. Deckerville Community Schools will remain OPEN at this time. However, the students and teachers of the classrooms which these students were in will transition to remote learning as of today. As per Health Department guidelines, these students will be able to return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, February 3rd, as long as they show no symptoms. In addition, we are working closely with the Sanilac County Health Department to identify Close Contacts of School Associated Cases of COVID-19. Anyone identified as a Close Contact will be notified by the health department as a part of the COVID-19 investigation process. Please answer the phone if the health department contacts you, as a contact tracer may be trying to reach you with important information. We recommend taking action to help limit the spread of COVID-19, even if staff members or students are not experiencing symptoms: • Wear a mask (covering mouth and nose) while in public places or if people who do not live with you must visit your home. • Practice social distancing (maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart). • Practice frequent handwashing (using soap for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol). • Follow capacity restrictions of social gatherings. • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with the inside of your elbow and immediately wash your hands. • Stay home if you are sick; you can also get tested. Thank you for understanding that, due to medical privacy laws, we are not able to release the names of the individuals with COVID-19. We will continue to communicate changes and updates with you. With your participation, we believe we can maintain a safe environment while also providing quality education. If you have any questions, contact the Sanilac County Health Department at 810-648-4098. For answers to your COVID-19 questions, please call the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 Hotline at 888-535-6136 or visit Michigan.gov/Coronavirus.

Dear Deckerville Schools Community. We are aware that several local news outlets are reporting that Deckerville Community Schools, and in particular, Deckerville Elementary School, is currently experiencing an “outbreak” of COVID-19. Although we have had several cases reported to us since January 4th, the majority have been in our high school or among staff members, not our elementary school. Many of these cases have been students or staff that were already quarantined before becoming symptomatic. One new case was reported today, originating from a high school student who was already quarantined. It is unclear why these news outlets consider the number of cases in our school district to be notable at this time. No news organization has contacted school officials, and our COVID-19 dashboard, located on our website, has been updated regularly. Please help us to continue keep our schools safe: Here are actions you can take: • Wear a mask (covering mouth and nose) when around people with whom you do not live. • Practice social distancing (maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart). • Practice frequent handwashing (using soap for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol). • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with the inside of your elbow and immediately wash your hands. • Stay home if you are sick.
